Told is run by Daine Reid (ABN 67 571 245 589), based on the Gold Coast, Queensland. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and how we look after it. We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If anything here is unclear, email daine@dainereid.com and you'll get a straight answer.
From you (the buyer): your name, email address, delivery address and phone number, collected when you order and in the follow-up email that sets up the interviews. Payment is processed entirely by Stripe — we never see or store your card details.
About your storyteller: their name, phone number, preferred call times, and any background you choose to share with us to help the conversations along.
The interviews: audio recordings and written transcripts of each phone conversation. These are the raw material of the book and the most personal thing we hold — the rules for them are set out separately below.
From this website: if we run advertising, this site may use standard measurement tools (such as the Meta Pixel) that collect anonymous usage data through cookies. We don't collect anything else through the site itself.
Because you're giving us someone else's details, we ask that you have their permission (or at least a warm heads-up) before the first call. The first interview always begins with a plain explanation of who's calling, why, and what the recordings are for — and we only continue if the storyteller is happy to. They can pause or stop at any time, on any call, just by saying so.
To run the interviews, write and print the book, deliver it to you, answer your questions, meet our legal obligations, and nothing beyond that. We don't send marketing emails unless you've asked for them, and we never sell or rent personal information to anyone.
Only the service providers needed to make the product: our payment processor (Stripe), the telephony and transcription services that carry and process the interview calls, and the Australian printer and delivery services that produce and ship your book. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.
Recordings and transcripts are stored on servers located in Australia. Access is limited to the people working directly on your book. We take reasonable steps to protect all personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access.
You can ask us at any time to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you or your storyteller. Email daine@dainereid.com and we'll act on it promptly. If you're not satisfied with how we've handled a privacy concern, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
If we change this policy, the new version will be posted here with an updated date. We won't quietly weaken any promise made above — in particular, the rules about recordings.
